Opera Ithaca to Open 4th Season with PAGLIACCI

Opera Ithaca opens their 4th Season with Ruggero Leoncavallo's hit operatic thriller, Pagliacci, September 23rd thru September 30th at Ithaca's Circus Culture and September 25th at NYC's Slipper Room, marking the 125th anniversary of the opera's world premiere.

James Chamberlain (Houston Grand Opera, Loft Opera, Sarasota Opera) and Megan Nielson (Festival Opera de San Luis, Sarasota Opera, Knoxville Opera) star in Pagliacci as Canio and Nedda, SeungHyeon Baek (New York City Opera, Carnegie Hall) sings Tonio, Erik Angerhofer (Opera Fort Collins, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Central City Opera) is Silvio, and Opera Ithaca's Mark A.B. Lawrence sings the role of Beppe. Cirque du Soleil star Sean Blue joins the production alongside Circus Culture artists Copper Santiago, Kevin Flanagan and an ensemble of aerialists, jugglers, acrobats and singers. Thomas Bagwell (Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Washington National Opera) conducts the new production directed and designed by Broadway actor and international opera singer, Zachary James, featuring Broadway hair and makeup artist Dotty Petersen and Lighting Designer Ron Ziomek. The opera will play six performances between Ithaca and New York City and will also be filmed for web release by television director and producer, Chrissy Guest (CBS, PBS, ABC).

Opera Ithaca was founded in 2014 by Zachary James and Lynn Craver to bring professional opera to the Ithaca and surrounding Finger Lakes region. Since opening doors Opera Ithaca has presented the world premiere of Bonnie Montgomery's Billy Blythe, the regional premiere of Kamala Sankaram and Susan Yankowitz's Thumbprint, the professional company premiere of Kristin Hevner's Il Sogno as well as standard operatic repertoire including Don Giovanni, Die Fledermaus, The Abduction from the Seraglio, Cenerentola, Bluebeard's Castle and more. The 2017/2018 season also includes Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek's Song from the Uproar, The Pirates of Penzance, Carmen, Tosca, a recital with Metropolitan Opera soprano, Anne-Carolyn Bird, and theatre for young audiences productions, Carmencita, directed and conceived by Ellen Jackson and The Mystery of the Magic Flute in collaboration with Rachel Lampert's FitzAndStartz Productions.
