New York City Opera filed for bankruptcy-court protection last week after failing to meet their financial needs. The opera had announced that it needed $7 million by the end of September to mount its full season and an additional $13 million by the end of the year. Unfortunately, they were unable to reach that goal.
However, according to reports, opera company's lawyer, Kenneth Rosen, said they may be interested parties as a "potential partner" or a "potential merger candidate."
Brooklyn Academy Of Music spokesperson said the academy isn't in discussions about a potential merger, and New York City Center spokesperson also said she didn't know whether any discussions were under way.
Opera America has expressed interest in purchasing City Opera's thrift shop, and City Opera's historic archives for safekeeping.
