MINNEAPOLIS (April 22, 2015) - With three days to go before the curtain rises on Minnesota Opera's final show of the season, Carmen breaks all ticket sales records in the company's 52-season history. Carmen's tickets sold to date currently exceed the previous record of $951,000 in revenue earned for the full run of the 2014 boundary-busting production of The Magic Flute, which returns for an encore presentation in Minnesota Opera's upcoming 2015-2016 season.
General Director Nina Archabal said, "Achieving this milestone with our new production of Carmen is an incredible way to conclude our 2014-2015 season. We extend our immense gratitude and appreciation to the Twin Cities community whose loyalty and support of Minnesota Opera's artistic vision is, in my opinion, unparalleled."
Minnesota Opera presents nine performances of Bizet's iconic Carmen, setting the production in 1970s post-Franco era Spain. Carmen opens at the Ordway Music Theater tonight, April 25, and continues through Sunday, May 10. Good seats are still available, though several performances are already sold out. Tickets are available online at mnopera.org or by phone at 612-333-6669.
