Writer and performer Marla Mase is set to deliver a special one-night-only performance of her stunning one-woman rock opera, A Brief Night Out, on Monday, December 12th at The Triad in New York City. Mase will be joined by the Tomás Doncker Band and the evening will feature direction from Sara Berg.
A Brief Night Out is Marla's Mase's rock-n-roll fairytale of a modern-day, middle-aged woman who apparently has it all: a husband, two kids, a business, friends, and yet she is falling apart. She embarks on an affair with the man of her dreams and discovers a self (for better or for worse) that has long remained hidden. It's a mid-life rock-n-roll crisis! Song titles include "Exquisite Drops," "Gaping Hole," "Lily Pad" and "I'm Done."
The Tomás Doncker Band is made up of Tomás Doncker (guitars, vocals), Booker King (bass), Heather Powell (vocals), Tobias Ralph (drums), and Nick Rolfe (keyboards).
Marla Mase is a writer/performer/producer/singer/songwriter from New York City, known for her gutsy, sexy, raw, performance style and her intelligent lyrics. Her newest project, speak, is a genre-busting rock album with a mix of world beat, spoken word, funk, r&b, punk, and classic rock-n-roll.
When people describe her work they say, "...it's very Mase," meaning eclectic, provocative, theatrical, risky, intense and very sexy. She has been dubbed Patti Smith with groove. Her live shows, a combination of rock-n-roll and spoken word, are explosive!
A Brief Night Out will play at The Triad (158 West 72nd Street) at 7pm on Monday, December 12th. Tickets, priced at $12, can be bought online at
www.BrownPaperTickets.com. There is also a two-drink minimum at the performance.
