Marco Armiliato Replaces Previous Conductor for IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at The Met 2/15-18

The Metropolitan Opera (The Met) has just announced that Marco Armiliato will conduct Rossini's IL Barbiere di Siviglia on February 15 and 18 matinee, replacing Maurizio Benini, who has withdrawn for personal reasons. Armiliato, who is currently conducting Verdi's Aida and Ernani, will now be conducting six out of seven Met performances this week. Armiliato made his Met debut in 1998 leading Puccini's La Bohème and has since conducted 20 operas with the company; these will be his first Met performances of IL Barbiere di Siviglia. Earlier this season, the Genoa, Italy native conducted the Met's opening night production of Donizetti's Anna Bolena starring Anna Netrebko.

IL Barbiere di Siviglia stars Diana Damrau as Rosina, Colin Lee as Almaviva, Rodion Pogossov as Figaro, John Del Carlo as Dr. Bartolo, and Ferruccio Furlanetto as Don Basilio.
