Lyric Opera of Chicago Broadcasts to Kick Off 2013-14 Season on 9/7

The Lyric Opera of Chicago Broadcasts kick off the 2013-14 season on Sat., Sept. 7 with the live broadcast of the "Stars of Lyric Opera at Millennium Park" free concert on 98.7WFMT and www.wfmt.com. The classical station's program director and "Through the Night" hostPeter Van de Graaff and Lyric's dramaturg Roger Pines will serve as host and commentator respectively of this season's Lyric Opera of Chicago Broadcasts.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago Broadcasts are generously sponsored by The Hurvis Family Foundation with matching funding provided by The Matthew Bucksbaum Family, The John and Jackie Bucksbaum Family, and Richard P. and Susan Kiphart.

The free preseason concert and eight operas of Lyric Opera of Chicago's 59th season will be carried live on 98.7WFMT and www.wfmt.com. The Sept. 7 broadcast begins at 7:15pm and the concert begins at 7:30pm.

The eight operas in Lyric's 2013-14 season are being broadcast live on their opening performances. Van de Graaff and Pines will anchor the opera broadcasts, which start with live commentary and recorded interviews at the times shown below.

Stars of Lyric Opera at Millennium Park: Sa Sep. 7 - 7:15pm

Otello/Verdi: Sa Oct. 5 - 4:45pm

Madama Butterfly/Puccini: Tu Oct. 15 - 7:15pm

Parsifal/Wagner: Sa Nov. 9 - 5:45pm

La traviata/Verdi: We Nov. 2 - 7:15pm

Die Fledermaus/J. Strauss, Jr.: Tu Dec. 10 - 7:15pm

The Barber of Seville/Rossini: Sa Feb. 1 - 7:15pm

Rusalka/Dvorak: Sa Feb. 22 - 7:15pm

La clemenza di Tito/Mozart: We Mar. 5 - 7:15pm

The eight mainstage operas will be rebroadcast on consecutive Saturdays in May and June of 2014 (specific dates to be announced).
