Loyola Opera Workshop Celebrates 'GREAT BRITTEN' with English Opera Highlights Tonight

The opera program at Loyola University New Orleans presents its spring workshop "Great Britten: Celebrating the 100th Birthday of Benjamin Britten" tonight, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium in Monroe Hall.

A celebrated composer, conductor and pianist, Britten was a central figure of 20th century British classical music. He wrote music in many genres, from film scores to opera, and some of his best-known works include "Peter Grimes" and "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra."

The evening's program will feature a variety of English opera highlights, including selections from "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "The Turn of the Screw," "Paul Bunyan," "Peter Grimes," Noye's Fludde," "Gloriana," "The Rape of Lucretia" and "Albert Herring." Carol Rausch will once again assume the role of music director and pianist.
