Tickets are now on sale for Lowell House Opera's production of Richard Strauss' comic opera, Ariadne auf Naxos. The opera will be sung in both English and German with full orchestra and English supertitles. Performances will take place on March 22, 24, 25, 29, 31 and April 1 at 8:30pm, on the Harvard University campus (Lowell House, 10 Holyoke Place, Cambridge, MA). A black tie reception will follow the performance on Friday, March 24. Tickets ($15-75) may be purchased through the Harvard Box Office (Farkas Hall, 12 Holyoke Street, Cambridge - boxoffice.harvard.edu - 617.496.2222) or at the door pending availability.

About the Opera: When a wealthy patron double-books a cast of uptight opera singers and a troupe of bawdy comedians for the same event, an epic battle ensues between the highbrow and lowbrow forms of entertainment. Extraordinary arias, coloratura fireworks, and achingly beautiful ensembles win the day, ardently making the case for the transcendent and transformative power of music. This contemporary staging simultaneously parodies and pays tribute to Harvard house culture, and bids a fond farewell to the Lowell House performance hall that will undergo renovation next season.

About the Artists: Ariadne auf Naxos features more than 20 local professional artists, including sopranos Jouvanca Jean-Baptiste and Sol Kim Bentley as Ariadne, tenors Christopher Eaglin and Sean Malkus as Bacchus, and sopranos Abigail Krawczy?ska and Elisa Sunshine as Zerbinetta.

Music Director Edward Elwyn Jones and Stage Director Roxanna Myhrum are prolific in the local and regional performing arts, with directorships in multiple organizations and ensembles. They return to Lowell House after directing the U.S premiere of Salieri's La Grotta di Trofonio in 2016.

Lowell House Opera, in residence at Harvard University since 1938, is the oldest continually performing opera company in New England. This unique organization draws together a combination of professional, student, and community artists to produce a fully staged opera each spring in the remarkable setting of Harvard's historic Lowell House.
