LA Opera's CARMEN Broadcast Live Tonight

Eli and Edythe Broad General Director Plácido Domingo announced that LA Opera's season-opening production of Carmen tonight, September 21, 2013, will be broadcast live on a special presentation of "LA Opera on Air" on Classical KUSC 91.5fm.

The performance, which Mr. Domingo will conduct, will feature Irish mezzo-soprano Patricia Bardon as Carmen, tenor Brandon Jovanovich as Don José, Italian bass-baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as Escamillo and South African soprano Pretty Yende in her Company debut as Micaëla. The production, originally created by Spanish director Emilio Sagi and previously seen in Los Angeles in 2004 and 2008, will be directed by Trevore Ross.

"Carmen is a masterpiece that encapsulates everything that audiences love most about opera: sumptuous melodies, impassioned drama and captivating visual spectacle on a grand scale," said Mr. Domingo. "I am thrilled that audiences at home will be able to experience the magic of live performance thanks to our longstanding partnership with KUSC."

Performance Dates
The opening night of Carmen will take place tonight, September 21, 2013, at 7:30pm. Additional performances will take place on Thursday, September 26, at 7:30pm; Saturday, September 28, at 7:30pm; Sunday, September 29, at 2pm; Tuesday, October 1, at 7:30pm; Friday, October 4, at7:30pm; and October 6 at 2pm. All performances will take place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 135 N. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles CA 90012.

Additional Performers
Some later performances of Carmen will feature alternate casting. Brazilian tenor Thiago Arancam will sing the role of Don José on October 1 and 4. The performance on September 28 will feature Serbian mezzo-soprano Milena Kitic as Carmen, baritone Dwayne Croft as Escamillo and soprano Amanda Woodbury (a member of LA Opera's Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program) as Micaëla. LA Opera's Resident Conductor Grant Gershon will conduct Carmen on September 26 and 28 and October 4.

Creative Team
The scenery designer is Gerardo Trotti and the costumes were designed byJesús del Pozo. The lighting designer is Guido Levi and the original choreography of Nuria Castejón will be reproduced in Los Angeles byBriseyda Zárate.

Live Broadcast
Thanks to the generous support of Zev Yaroslavsky since 2007, LA Opera and Classical KUSC 91.5fm have partnered to bring the excitement of live performances to KUSC listeners. Hosted by Duff Murphy, the live radio broadcast of the opening night of Carmen on September 21 will also be streamed online at www.KUSC.org.
