Jack Foley, a tour guide at the Royal Opera House, was collecting for Cancer Research UK earlier this month when he was overhead singing in the street by Jonathon Brosnan, a former manager of the London Palladium. Bronsan was impressed with Foley and he immediately signed him up. Bronson said, "He stands out in all weathers, rain, hail and snow, and his voice is unbelievable. I was so surprised to find he wasn't signed up."
They hope Foley's recording of the classical crossover Nella Fantasia get him critical and public acclaim.
Foley, a 45 year old former undertaker and miner's son, said, "I was always drawn to opera, I remember listening to it when it wasn't cool for a lad of 16 in Durham. Jon was very complimentary, and we got talking and I gave him my CDs and he took me under his wing and we have been throwing ideas around."
Foley added that, "God bestowed me with some high notes, and that's what being a tenor is all about."
