Pinocchio: The Opera
Seven Pinellas County schools which are part of the ElevateARTS program will be attending a performance of Pinocchio the Opera at Opera Central, 2145 First Ave. S., St. Petersburg. Devised by John Davies, Pinocchio is based on the classic children's story and is set to the music of Mozart, Offenbach, Donizetti, Pergolesi, Sullivan, and Verdi. The opera will be fully staged and costumed and will be sung by St. Petersburg Opera singers, with Teresa Ancaya on the piano. Ezra Haugebrooks will be the conductor. The seven schools (Campbell Park, Melrose, Lakewood, Maximo, Bear Creek, Fairmount Park and Woodlawn) will send their third grade classes. SPO has already performed in-school introductory sessions and taught the children a chorus they will sing in the opera. The school music teachers are continuing to prepare the students for their chorus roles. Free to the students but not open to the public because of limited seating. The opera will be re-mounted in 2017 and opened to the publicGET READY FOR GIVING TUESDAY
SPO will be participating in this year's #GivingTuesday! In case you haven't heard, the goal of #GivingTuesday is to create a global day of giving back, which celebrates generosity and kindness, traits that have been in kind of short supply lately. The day itself falls on the Tuesday following American Thanksgiving each year. #GivingTuesday for 2016 is November 29. St. Petersburg Opera has a goal of raising $10,000 and we really hope you'll be a part of reaching that goal! All of the donations received will go towards our education programs. We hope you're able to join the millions who are making #GivingTuesday the huge success that it is!
Giving is easy - just log onto our website and donate - every dollar comes direct to us - no "fundraising management" fees.
Here's a link which you can bookmark for November 29 (although rest assured, we will remind you.)
