The New Israeli Opera will present in a new production "La forza del destino" by Verdi, conducted by the musical director of the Israeli Opera Daniel Oren, directed by Pier Francesco Maestrini and performed by international and Israeli soloists, The Opera Orchestra - The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion and The Israeli Opera Chorus conducted by Ethan Schmeisser.

The opera will be presented between May 12 and May 27, 2017, at the Shlomo Lahat (Chich) Opera House in Tel Aviv. Sung in Italian, with Hebrew and English Surtitles.

The Force of Destiny (La forza del destino) is one of Verdi's loved operas which was written for the Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on the drama Don Álvaro, o La fuerza del sino by Ángel de Saavedra (1835) and on a scene from Friedrich Schiller's drama Wallenstein.

The hero of the plot is destiny and its illusions. A stray bullet fired from a pistol moves its wheels and leads to murder, revenge and destruction.

The plot tells about heroes who feel that destiny controls their lives. Don Alvaro and Leonora are in love. Her father doesn't approve of this match. The couple plans to elope only unfortunately a stray bullet fired from Don Alvaro's pistol wounds Leonora's father who then curses his daughter before he dies. Don Carlo, Leonora's brother, decides to punish Alvaro and Leonora who are fleeing for their lives. In destiny's illusions he befriends Don Alvaro without him knowing his identity and the two become blood brothers. But when the truth about his identity is revealed their friendship is forgotten and in a duel between the two Alvaro kills his opponent who stabs his sister Leonora as she rushes to embrace him as he's dying.

In 2003 the Italian director Maestrini Pier Francesco directed Verdi's Nabucco at the Israeli Opera. Now he returns to direct La forza del destino. Maestrini directed many opera production in Italy and all over the world including IL Barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola (Rossini), La sonnambula (Bellini), Andrea Chenier (Giordano), Tosca (Puccini), Carmen (Bizet), Linda di Chamounix (Donizetti), La traviata, Un ballo in maschera, Attila, Rigoletto, Il trovatore, Nabucco (Verdi) and many others.
