Italian tenor Francesco Demuro will make his Met debut in the role of Rodolfo in this evening's performance of La Bohème, replacing Charles Castronovo who is ill. Demuro was scheduled to make his Met debut as Alfredo in La Traviata next month.
Castronovo agreed just last week to make his Met role debut as Rodolfo, replacing Ramón Vargas, who is ill. Vargas is expected to return to the role December 1 for four performances through December 13. Castronovo is still scheduled to sing Rodolfo on Friday, November 28.
Francesco Demuro sang the role of Rodolfo earlier this year in Frankfurt, and has previously sung the role with the Seattle Opera. He will return to the Met in December and January to sing Alfredo in La Traviata, a role he has also sung with the Paris Opera; the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; the Vienna State Opera; and the Detroit Opera. Also this season, he sings Alfredo with the Teatro Real in Madrid; Teatro la Fenice in Venice; and Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Tonight's performance of La Bohème, conducted by Riccardo Frizza, also stars Sonya Yoncheva as Mimì, Myrtò Papatanasiu as Musetta, David Bizic as Marcello, Alessio Arduini as Schaunard, Matthew Rose as Colline, and John Del Carlo as Benoit and Alcindoro.
