Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera) announced today its exciting contributions to this year's annual National Opera Week (October 23 - November 3.) Two special events, not to be missed, highlight just a few reasons FWOpera is a must on the opera season travel list. In its fifth year, National Opera Week is hosted by OPERA America and celebrates the extraordinary quality and quantity of opera activity in North America. Through accessible activities designed to invite the community to experience the joy of opera, National Opera Week brings attention to the art form, often introducing it for the first time to new audiences.
FWOpera will celebrate this national week of recognition with not one, but two dynamic operatic experiences for North Texas residents to enjoy completely free of charge.
Each spring, the opera company brings incredible talent to the Bass Performance Hall stage during its acclaimed Festival (this year running April 19 through May 11, 2014). FWOpera is proud to present a dynamic, early evening concert featuring one of its stellar artists in a one-night only, cabaret-style performance as part of the Grand Opening of the newly renovated downtown Sundance Square. Taking place on the brand new outdoor stage, celebrated American Soprano Carter Scott, star of FWOpera's 2012 critically praised Tosca, along with members of the Fort Worth Opera Studio, will perform a thrilling selection of operatic classics specifically chosen for this event.Earlier in the day, FWOpera presents a fun-filled morning performance for all ages, particularly Fort Worth's younger audiences, helping to kick off the Grand Opening of Sundance Square with a family-friendly performance from the company's Children's Opera Theatre. FWOpera's talented Studio Artists will bring the classic story of the Three Little Pigs to life in a 45-minute English language production complete with colorful costumes, animated staging, and familiar melodies and tunes, that introduces guests of all ages to the sounds and excitement of opera in a simple yet entertaining way.
