From November 12 through November 19, 2016, Florida Grand Opera (FGO) will proudly present Georges Bizet's operatic masterpiece Carmen at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.

"We have been diligently working to prepare every detail of this amazing performance for our Miami audience," said Susan T. Danis, General Director & CEO of FGO. "We are very excited to present this dramatic piece featuring our talented cast and production staff."

Carmen, one of the world's most famous and frequently performed operas, shocked Parisian audiences at its first performances in 1875. Now, Florida Grand Opera brings this beloved piece to the Ziff Ballet Opera House stage, bringing this sordid tale of obsession, betrayal, defiance, and rage to Miami audiences for a truly operatic experience.

Audiences love Bizet's passionate score, the Overture, "Habanera," "Toreador Song." They relish in the story of the femme fatale Carmen who toys with men for her amusement, until she abandons a jealous soldier. They connect with the characters: the flirtatious Carmen, the jealous soldier Don Jose, the fierce bull-fighter Escamillo. Movies, television shows, and commercials have been inspired by Carmen for years, and now the Miami public has the opportunity to see the tale in its original form.

All casting information and performance dates are listed below.

PLOT SUMMARY | Carmen

Carmen, the fiery gypsy cigarette girl, gets any man she wants-and then gets rid of him when a better one comes along. When she sets her sights on Corporal Don José, he doesn't stand a chance. He's smitten and gives up everything-his career, his mother, even the girl he's going to marry-to be with the sultry siren. For a while, they revel in passion. But then Carmen meets a famous matador and dumps Don José in a heartbeat. This time, though, she has finally pushed a man too far!
