The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is thrilled to present an HD Opera screening straight from the Opéra de Paris, capturing every detail of Alvis Hermanis' stunning production of The Damnation of Faust, on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 7pm at FIAF's Florence Gould Hall, 55 East 59th Street, betw. Madison and Park.
This visually arresting new staging brings out the theatricality in Hector Berlioz's masterpiece, composed as a result of his lifelong obsession with Goethe's story about a man who sells his soul to the devil. Director Alvis Hermanis reimagines Faust's metaphysical journey in the age of cosmic exploration, with an all-star cast featuring electrifying performances from Jonas Kaufmann, Sophie Koch, and Bryn Terfel in this bold new production.
"Jonas Kaufmann makes an exceptionally thrilling Faust ... Terfel is a wonderfully seductive villain, and Koch sings with exquisite richness and delicacy!"-ArtInfo
