Dutch National Ballet is investing in the development of young choreographic talent and invites young choreographers to register for the Choreographic Academy.
Through the Choreographic Academy, Dutch National Ballet aims to offer young talented makers a platform to develop their skills in choreographing ballets.

During a three-week period, a select number of talented choreographers will be given studio time to work with the twelve dancers of the Dutch National Ballet's Junior Company. The focus will be on the creative process, rather than on the final result.
In this period, the choreographers will receive assistance from ballet mistress Caroline Sayo Iura and dance dramaturge Peggy Olislaegers. The results will be presented to a select audience, and the choreographers will also take part in workshops about marketing & communication and leadership.

The call for Choreographic Academy participants is also open to young choreographers who are trained in another dance idiom than ballet. Young choreographers can register until 28 January 2019, through: www.operaballet.nl/choreographicacademy

The Choreographic Academy will take place from Tuesday 4 June to Friday 21 June 2019 in the studios of Dutch National Ballet, in Amsterdam.

Ted Brandsen, director Dutch National Ballet:
"I believe very much in the power of creativity and the necessity for our art form to constantly reinvent itself. I felt it was really important to create an opportunity for developing choreographers to work without the added pressure of making a finished piece. Young choreographers in particular, need to be able to do research, development and to find out what works and what doesn't. You have to invest time, energy and resources into developing them."

The Choreographic Academy is one of the four cornerstones of Dutch National Ballet's talent development programme for choreographers. Alongside the Choreographic Academy, there are the choreographic workshop New Moves, in which dancers from the company get the opportunity to create new ballets and present them to the public, the Young Choreographer & Composer Exchange Project, an exchange project between Dutch National Ballet and other international ballet companies, and the Young Creative Associates, who enter into long-term association with the company.
