Siberian-born baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, one of the world's most magnetic performers, returns to LA Opera on May 22 for a recital with his frequent collaborator, pianist Ivari Ilja.
Dmitri Hvorostovsky has captivated audiences in opera houses and concert halls around the globe, earning unparalleled critical acclaim: "If it were possible for a voice to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, his could and did" (Washington Post). Particularly renowned for his recital appearances, he is equally celebrated as an interpreter of the classic 19th-century Russian song literature and as a powerful advocate of Russian composers from the 20th century to the present day. His May 22 appearance at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion will feature an ambitious homage to his homeland, bringing together settings of Russia's greatest poet, Alexander Pushkin, by nine different composers-including Glinka, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Glière-followed by Shostakovich's haunting Suite on Verses of Michelangelo Buonarroti. When and Where: The recital will take place at 7:30pm on Thursday, May 22, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (135 North Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, 90012).
