Last October, The Napa Valley Opera House celebrated the 10th anniversary of its extensive renovation and reopening. Since then, the Opera House Board of Directors entered into a long term lease with City Winery who have just completed a transformation of the venue which now features a full 100-seat restaurant and wine-on-tap bar.
The New Napa Valley Opera House (NVOH) will transition into a new era, with increased community programming and the start of a vigorous arts education program. In 2014 NVOH will present 75 performances in partnership with local nonprofits such as Lucky Penny Productions, VOENA, Napa Valley Youth Symphony and more. A series of Heritage Programs guided by the newly formed Latino Programming Advisory Council will include acts such as Los Cenzontles, Perla Batalla, and Mariachi Divas. Additional shows will include the Vintage Film Series by Richard Miami and other NVOH favorites such as John Pizzarelli, the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows, and more soon to be announced.
Executive Director, Jessica Thomason states, "With the re-opening of the new NVOH, we are finally in a position where we can fulfill the vision of the original founders-to make the Opera House an organization for the people of Napa."
NVOH is also planning to launch an exciting education program, which will send NVOH artists into Napa County schools. Working with its partners The Napa County Alliance for Art Education, Napa Learns, and the Napa County Office of Education, the program will integrate with project-based learning techniques and will provide teacher training. By bringing art experiences into the classroom NVOH hopes to create an engaging environment and increase student enthusiasm while bridging cultural gaps in the community.
In addition to public programming, NVOH continues to host exclusive art, food and wine experiences for members of Studio 1030 - a core group of patrons who enjoy the opportunity to meet guest artists one-on-one at wineries and private residencies. All proceeds from this membership group directly supports the NVOH's 75 community shows and the education program.
