The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage's 2018 Celebrity Opera Series concludes with the great opera stars Angela Gheorghiu and Vittorio Grigòlo, joining forces for a concert of thrilling arias and duets on Tuesday, May 1 with world-renowned conductor, Eugene Kohn. Performing together at The Broad Stage for the first time, this is an exclusive pairing of two international icons in concert.

Angela Gheorghiu's magnificent voice and dazzling stage presence have established her as a unique international opera superstar. She has appeared on over 80 recordings, released through the labels Decca, EMI, and Deutsche Grammophon. The internet age has only propelled her further into the soprano stratosphere. Her performance of Habanera from Bizet's Carmen has garnered over six million views on YouTube. All her performances and recitals have confirmed Ms. Gheorghiu's status as one of the most beloved stars of opera.

Ms. Gheorghiu previously performed at The Broad Stage in 2016, 2015 and 2013. The Los Angeles Times said, "Revelatory... bewitching, thoughtful, alluring, [and] surprising. Everyone went wild, and it was hard to keep track of the number of bouquets laid at her feet."

Born in Arezzo, Italy, Vittorio Grigòlo is the quintessential Italian tenor. He began his vocal career as a soloist in the Sistine Chapel Choir and he is now considered one of the finest tenors of his generation. He has performed principal roles in the world's most prestigious opera houses and his exceptional vocal and dramatic talents have been widely praised since 2010, when he made his debuts at London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as the Chevalier des Grieux in Manon and at the Metropolitan Opera the same year as Rodolfo in La Bohème

This March, Anthony Tommasini said in the New York Times, "Grigòlo is the reason to see the Met'sLucia." The New York Times called his performance, "fearless...Mr. Grigòlo was in the zone with a fervor that no one else matched. [He] put everything on the line for that final scene. The field of opera could use a little more of Mr. Grigòlo's animalistic intensity."

The Celebrity Opera Series is made possible by generous support from The Lloyd E. Rigler-Lawrence E. Deutsch Foundation. The Foundation continues to make contributions to strengthen the concert series at The Broad Stage and enrich the cultural life of Los Angeles.
