Barbara Frittoli will sing the role of Elisabeth de Valois in next season's performances of Verdi's Don Carlo. These performances will be Frittoli's Met role debut.

Frittoli made her Met debut in 1995 as Micaëla in Bizet's Carmen. She has performed numerous Verdi roles at the Met, including Amelia in Simon Boccanegra, the title character in Luisa Miller, and Desdemona in Otello. Her Met repertory also includes Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème; Donna Anna and Donna Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni; Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte; and the title role in Puccini's Suor Angelica. Next season, she will make her Met role debut as Vitellia in Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito.

Don Carlo, conducted by Lorin Maazel, opens February 22, 2013 and stars Anna Smirnova as Eboli, Ramón Vargas in the title role, Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Rodrigo, Ferruccio Furlanetto as Philip II, and Eric Halfvarson as the Grand Inquisitor.
