Ann Murray and Meredith Arwady will sing the role of the Marquise de Berkenfield in La Fille du Régiment, replacing Felicity Palmer who has withdrawn from the run for personal reasons. Ann Murray will sing the performances on February 6, 10, and 13 matinee, and Meredith Arwady those on February 16, 19, and 22.
Murray made her Met debut in 1984 as Sesto in Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, returning as Dorabella in Così fan tutte in 1984 and as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in 1989. Most recently at the Met, she sang Marcellina in the 2007 revival of Le Nozze di Figaro.
Arwady, a winner of the 2004 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, made her Met debut last season as Pasqualita in John Adams's Doctor Atomic. This season, she appears as the Marquise de Berkenfield with the San Francisco Opera in Laurent Pelly's production.
Felicity Palmer will sing the role of Klytämnestra in Elektra at the Met this season from December 10 through December 29.
Pelly's hit production of La Fille du Régiment returns to the Met for six performances beginning January 11, with Juan Diego Flórez reprising his acclaimed Tonio. Diana Damrau makes her role debut as Marie, Kiri Te Kanawa returns to the Met stage in the speaking role of the Duchess of Krakenthorp and Marco Armiliato conducts.
