The Amarillo Symphony, (www.amarillosymphony.org), the leader of orchestral music in the Texas Panhandle since 1924, kicks of the 2016-2017 season with Opera Highlights with Mary Jane Johnson.
The Amarillo Symphony will perform Brahms' Symphony No. 3, Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Die Meistersinger and Mary Jane Johnson joins the Amarillo Symphony and will perform selected arias from opera's greatest composers. This season opening concert is the most exciting one yet.
"We are opening our season celebrating the talents of Amarillo fills me with so much pride and enthusiasm for what we have accomplished in my quick 3 years as music director," said Jacomo Bairos, Music Director and Conductor. "I cannot imagine a more wonderful beginning to my 4th season celebrating composers we cherish with a world-class opera star we all adore as an artist, teacher and friend. Mary Jane Johnson graces our stage with her world-class artistry for her final live symphonic performances destined to be experiences remembered for years to come. And of course our incredible musicians of the Amarillo Symphony get to display their virtuosic musicianship in a concert that truly shows how lucky we are to have this institution in the Texas Panhandle. Opera Highlights with Mary Jane Johnson will be held at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 pm.
