QUINCY MUMFORD

BIO:
Quincy Mumford is a musician from Allenhurst, New Jersey. Mumford became active in the New Jersey music scene early on, frequently playing at The Stone Pony. In 2008, Mumford focused seriously on his music and in 2009, released South Edgemere. Mumford's next release was titled Speak, which The Aquarian's John Pfeiffer says is "a high point for Mumford as it has separated him from that Dave Matthews, jammy high school vibe and purified his atmosphere with some truly memorable sounds, and stand out compositions of a seasoning writer." Mumford's style has been described as "funk, soul and surf music, with a dash of reggae thrown in" by Jean Mikle of the Asbury Park Press. Mumford attributes the development of his laid back style of pop, funk, rock, and reggae to growing up in a New Jersey shore town close to Asbury Park, New Jersey, where his primary pastimes were surfing, skateboarding in the empty Allenhurst pool, and hanging out on the boardwalk or by the lagoons. Had he grown up in a more urban environment, Mumford says he might have leaned more towards hip hop. Mumford was the recipient of three Asbury Music Awards in 2009. He won Best Male Acoustic Act and he and his band, The Reason Why, won Album of the Year (for Sound Edgemere) and Song of the Year (for Can't Break Free).Speak went on to rank number 10 in the top 90 albums of 2009 on 90.5 The Night's year end countdown. Quincy Mumford and the Reason Why won the Asbury Park Music Award for Top Young Band Under 21 in 2010 and for Top Pop Band in 2011. In March 2012, Quincy Mumford and his band "The Reason Why" recorded a live album at The Saint in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The concert also served as a fundraiser for Clean Ocean Action. The album, entitled "Live at The Saint," was released May 25th 2012. Quincy Mumford and The Reason Why performed at the Appel Farm Arts and Music Festival with Jukebox The Ghost, Dawes, The Tedeschi Trucks Band, and others in June 2012.
