POSTER THIEF

BIO:
A folk-pop duo from Montreal, Poster Thief steals your attention with multiplying melodies and spectral vocals. Their first album, The Before Colour EP, was released in November 2012. The EP tells stories known to everyone and no one, ephemeral tales about friendship, love, loss, the unique nuances of universal emotions and the redemption that comes in the wake of creative exhaustion. After stints in larger groups she and he got together when they agreed that two heads were better than one – and much less dramatic than five. They simplified things and began to write and compose in a Mile-End basement. The melodies, harmonies and looping vocals get you low and high. Strong rhythms firmly rooted in a folk past beat towards an electric, electronic future. Somewhere between dream-pop and indie-rock, low-tech and high-tech get along well here. Oscillating guitar riffs accentuate a smooth, reverberating voice. These days Poster Thief divide their time between gigging, creating new music and prying artsy posters off telephone poles. There’s always a pair of flat nose pliers on hand. Even at -40 below. Live, Poster Thief shines. Always perfecting the show, loopers and pedals abound. They manage to play two guitars, a keyboard, loop and mash vocal harmonies and play a modified drum kit. The resulting sound is layered and makes for a fully captivating, fearless show.
