Asking almost anyone this question, you get a response that has proven to be one of the best marketing strategies by an entertainer. When you ask, “Where is Mike Jones?” Inevitably the response is, “Who? Mikes Jones, Who? Mike Jones”. For those that aren’t so sure, they say, Who is Mike Jones, and then almost immediately after saying those words together, they too respond with the call and response, “Who? Mike Jones!” Some has called it “marketing genius.” When Mike Jones took his Grandmother’s advice to take what he was being given and make something out of it,(when Mike would try to get his records played by local DJ’s, they would respond with, Who is Mike Jones?) if he was serious about being heard as rapper, the result was epidemic. He shed over a hundred pounds by changing his eating habits and working out twice a day. His new strategy is based on him figuratively and literally. There are times when he shows up to perform and promoters and fans alike ask, “Where is Mike Jones?” He immediately responds with his notable smile and hearty laugh and then in only a way that he could do, he says, Who? Mike Jones! Who? Mike Jones! and people happily repeat the call and response, and proves that this strategy is a long-lasting one. Mike Jones is what the music industry calls a “crossover” artist.
