dogbrain brings to you... "My Reprieve". "My Reprieve" is a new music video, directed by award-winning filmmaker Jason Kessler, performed by dogbrain (aka Jay Ward). The song, "My Reprieve" (Ward/Rosler) is from dogbrain's "nest" CD.

A phone rings.

"The witnesses have gathered, I regard them through the glass
A woman sits beneath the clock, a ghost from the past
It seems we're right on schedule, the straps are nice and tight
She smiles like an angel and looks me in the eye..."

The phone rings again (and again). In this wickedly spooky chorus (steeped in gallow's humor straight from the gallows), dogbrain makes a simple request:

"Could you get that, could you get that please... it could be my reprieve".

In 4 minutes and 20 seconds, you'll find out what happens. Click here to watch the video: http://youtu.be/i8dkly4tTuA

dogbrain plays a bunch of mysterious instruments on this jazz-hop/urban r&b meets Talking Heads flavored track. As for dogbrain's musical defense team, he is joined by three greats: LaJuan Carter's on backing vocals, Bobby Watson on sax, and Bernard Wright on keyboards. Unfortunately, none of them had law degrees.

Filmmaker Jason Kessler fuses elements of dogbrain's performance with plenty of feverish and nightmarish images, many culled from vast film noir public domain vaults (or should we say crypts). The editing is wickedly fun, and in the last minute, concocts a beauty of a montage that adds heart to the (dark) humor.

Oh, and hey, for old film buffs: you will see the "Angel in Red" of the song, fleetingly. Do you recognize the actress? (One hint: She co-starred in one of Jackie Gleason's earliest films).

Cast & Crew:

Jay Ward (dogbrain) wasn't cut with a cookie cutter and won't fit into a pigeon hole. Chances are about 100% you won't see him on American Idol performing My Reprieve. His original, dark and funny songs and productions whirl and spin their way into your head, making his entire CD a satisfying listen from beginning to end. dogbrain's nest CD has been featured on many eclectic NPR radio programs across the U.S., including WKPS which called it, "Dogbrainy. Nice. Inspired and fresh." Trish Lewis, WUCX, Radio host of "Eclectic Chair" says she played the album "til it practically wore out. Dogbrain is the tops!" she exclaims. Jay was also recently a featured artist and guest co-host on mvy radio with radio host Alison Hammond. Alison praised dogbrain's "extraordinary musicianship," going on to say: "You take some pretty some heavy subjects and gave them a hook!"http://dogbrainmusic.com/

Jason Kessler (director of video): Over the past couple of decades, Kessler has solidified his reputation as a documentary filmmaker, winning over a dozen awards and seeing his work broadcast internationally. His films include, "Opposable Chums: Guts & Glory of the World Series of Birding", "A Thief Among Angels" and "What's Wrong with this Picture?". http://opposablechums.com/

Don Rosler (co-writer of "My Reprieve" & producer of video): Rosler is the writer & producer of the acclaimed new CD "Rosler's Recording Booth". He also co-wrote a bunch of tunes on dogbrain's 'nest' CD.
