Patchogue, NY -- Legendary Long Island Rock and Roll group ZEBRA celebrates 40 year anniversary with special Thanksgiving Eve performance, presented by WBAB 102.3 FM and D'Angelico Guitars, at Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts (PTPA) tonight, Nov. 25, at 8 p.m.
ZEBRA galloped out of New Orleans in early 1975. The trio, consisting of Randy Jackson, Felix Hanemann and Guy Gelso, concocted their moniker from a 1926 Vogue magazine cover and soon won over the South and East Coast. ZEBRA released their self-titled debut album in 1983 and was the fastest selling debut album in Atlantic Records' history. MTV and heavy FM radio airplay of "Tell Me What You Want" and "Who's Behind the Door?" helped ZEBRA's debut album rapidly reach gold status setting the scene for their follow-up album in 1984. Veteran producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith, Cheap Trick), who executive produced ZEBRA's debut album, also helmed the trio's follow-up, "No Tellin' Lies." The songs range from the hard-rocking "Wait Until the Summer's Gone" to the Beatle-esque ballad, "Lullaby." With the release of their third Atlantic Records album, "3.V," ZEBRA took their music career one step further with the album's credits, which read "Produced by Randy Jackson and ZEBRA." Thus, for the very first time, the group gained complete control of its creative output. A collection of the finest songs they have ever written; "3.V" clearly shows ZEBRA's lasting power and originality. ZEBRA emerged from the studio again in 2003 with "ZEBRA IV," on Mayhem Records. "ZEBRA IV" marks the best effort to date by ZEBRA with powerful cuts, including "Arabian Nights," "Why," and "Waiting To Die." In 2008, the group released "ZEBRA THE DVD," which captures the trio's energy and power on stage. The DVD features live concert footage from both Long Island and New Orleans' House of Blues performances, in addition to several interviews and bonus features.
ZEBRA was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2010, which acknowledged the group as Louisiana's #1 Rock and Roll band by the Louisiana Music Commission. On October 18, 2012, ZEBRA was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Through the band's music career, ZEBRA fans have enjoyed a total of five videos on MTV and ZEBRA has garnered combined album sales of nearly 2 million worldwide.
