Following early January's sold-out world premiere in L.A., Wordless Music and the Barbican present the European live score premiere of Barry Jenkins' MOONLIGHT -- nominee for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Score -- performed by our friends in the London Contemporary Orchestra, and led by conductor Ryan McAdams and the original score's composer, Nicholas Britell.
A timely story of human connection and self-discovery, and winner of over 90 critics' awards to date, including Best Motion Picture at the Golden Globes, MOONLIGHT chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami. At once a vital portrait of contemporary African-American life and an intensely personal meditation on identity, family, friendship, and love, MOONLIGHT is a groundbreaking work of cinema that reverberates with deep compassion and universal truths. Anchored by unforgettable performances from an extraordinary ensemble cast, Jenkins' vision is profoundly moving in its portrayal of the moments, people, and unknowable forces that shape our lives and make us who we are.
At this moment more than ever, MOONLIGHT's story of individual human dignity and the fundamental decency of people deserves the widest possible audience, and we are privileged to be working with the Barbican and Altitude on behalf of this remarkable film. This show was almost instantly SOLD OUT (thank you!); we'll see you in March...

Stanley Kubrick's BARRY LYNDON in Brooklyn
"A film is--or should be--more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later." -
Stanley Kubrick
Redmond Barry (
Ryan O'Neal) is a young, roguish Irishman determined, in any way, to make a life for himself as a nobleman. Enlisting in the British Army and fighting in Europe's Seven Years War, Barry deserts, joins the Prussian army, gets promoted to the rank of spy, and becomes a pupil to a Chevalier and con artist/gambler. Barry then lies, dupes, duels, and seduces his way up the social ladder, entering into a lustful but loveless marriage to a wealthy countess, Lady Lyndon (
Marisa Berenson). He takes the name of Barry Lyndon, and settles in England with wealth and power beyond his wildest dreams, before falling into ruin.
BARRY LYNDON's Oscar-winning soundtrack features Irish traditional music and military marches, along with baroque and classical themes by Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach, and Paisiello. Most notable are interpretations of Schubert's Piano Trio in E-flat, which emerges as a recurring, melancholic love theme for Lady Lyndon, and Handel's Sarabande, a heartbreaking melody that embodies the tragedy of Barry's wasted life.
Kubrick's sublime score will be performed by 50 members of the Wordless Music Orchestra, and conducted by Ryan McAdams. BARRY LYNDON will be projected in a 2K DCP restoration in its live score world premiere at Brooklyn's premiere movie palace, Kings Theatre, one of the five Loews 'Wonder Theatres,' opened in 1929 and magnificently restored in 2015. Tickets are now on sale.
