Lovers of Celtic music are in for a special treat when the act known as Women of Ireland takes to the stage at the State Theatre on Friday, March 7th.

Women of Ireland is an innovative and exciting full stage concert production which showcases the next generation of Ireland's leading female performers. The show demonstrates the well of talent that exists within Ireland's traditions of music, song and dance. The North American Tour includes vocalists The O'Neil Sisters (Fiona, Naomi, and Evangeline) lead dancer Kelly McDonnell, and the sensational fiddler Niamh Gallagher.

The production comprises a 20 member company made up of the best female performers within the Irish musical tradition performing alongside other world class musicians, singers & dancers. It has been described as 'mesmerizing' by the Irish Examiner and the talent of the cast as 'superhuman at times...gripping' by the Sarasota Herald Tribune. The name Women of Ireland refers to a beautiful piece of music bearing the same name and known in the Irish language as 'Mná na hÉireann', which translates as Women of Ireland.

A point of emphasis with Women in Ireland will be the presentation of the most revered qualities of Ireland's ethnic music, which will be transported from the Irish fireside to the historic State Theatre statge. Special significance will be placed on depicting the pure qualities of Irish music in a contemporary setting while the performance will also include well known popular songs which will be given a stirring Celtic treatment.
