Composer and New Amsterdam Records co-founder/co-artistic director William Brittelle has released his new digital-only single "Dream Has No Sacrifice," featuring Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes).
The track is now streaming on Soundcloud, and also available for purchase on Bandcamp and iTunes.
Wasner will join the revered String Orchestra of Brooklyn - a critically acclaimed group of musicians dedicated to exploring the breadth of the string repertoire - to perform the world premiere of "Dream Has No Sacrifice" on August 31 at NYC's (Le) Poisson Rouge. The evening will also feature vocalist Aaron Roche, violinist Michi Wiancko, and cellist Paul Wiancko.Brittelle and Wasner have collaborated in the past on "Spiritual America", an ongoing series of electro-acoustic orchestral art songs featuring works that Brittelle is writing for Wye Oak and orchestra. Pieces from the project have been performed with the Alabama Symphony, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Liquid Music Series at the Walker Art Center, and The Baltimore Symphony.
On "Dream Has No Sacrifice", Brittelle is behind the composition, lyrics, and electronics; Wasner is the vocalist. The track also features Mark Dancigers (NOW Ensemble) on the acoustic guitar; Eleonore Oppenheim (Victoire) on the double bass; Michi Wiancko on the 5-string violin; Paul Wiancko on the cello; and screams by vocalist Jason Lekberg."'Dream Has No Sacrifice' is a digital single that depicts the pursuit of unadulterated emotional and artistic dreams in the face of overwhelming complications and challenges. In other words, it's about my life and the way it feels to attempt to balance fringe art, family, marriage, health, and spirituality in a city that seems bent on producing anxiety at every turn. In the piece, I attempt to widen my musical bookends, allowing death metal screams, programmed R & B drums, string orchestra (running the gamut from thorny/virtuosic to bucolic), and pop vocals to all co-exist, though in a contentious environment. This piece marks my fourth for vocalist Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes), a truly magical singer who was able to be the voice of purity throughout the piece."
The (le) Poisson Rouge performance on August 31 will also feature the String Orchestra of Brooklyn performing the New York premiere of Brittelle's piece "The Canyons Curved Burgundy" featuring synthesizers, electronic drums, and singer/electric guitarist Aaron Roche, which will be available as a digital-only single through the New Amsterdam Records subscription series. Both of Brittelle's new singles were produced by Ryan Kelly.Performance Details: Release Event for William Brittelle's singles: "Dream Has No Sacrifice" (World Premiere) and "Canyons Curved Burgundy" (New York Premiere) featuring the String Orchestra of Brooklyn with William Brittelle, and special guests Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak/Flock of Dimes), Aaron Roche, and Michi & Paul Wiancko.
