Peter Bjorn and John were excited to join NPR's World Cafe Host David Dye in the studio this June when he visited Stockholm as part of World Cafe's Sense of Place series. Having entertained the World Cafe listeners back in 2007 after the release 2006's Writer's Block album and smash hit "Young Folks," World Cafe was excited to have the band return as their first guests for the Stockholm Sense of Place program and play several fan favorites along with a couple of new songs from their forthcoming and as yet untitled new album #PBJ7.
It's been four years since Peter Bjorn and John released their sixth album, the critically acclaimed Gimme Some that not only earned them favorable write-ups from Rolling Stone, Esquire, NY Times, ELLE, Entertainment Weekly, SPIN, Nylon and more, but also saw them touring the US extensively and performing live on several National TV shows including The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CONAN and Yo Gabba Gabba! Since then the band has been extremely busy working on their next studio album (#PBJ7) as well as individual projects including solo work, production, and collaborations.
The first new Peter Bjorn and John song to be released since Gimme Some came out on April 18th 2015 as part of INGRID Volym 2 -- a special Record Store Day compilation from INGRID, the Swedish artist collective that the band started with several friends including Lykke Li and Miike Snow. "High Up (Take Me To The Top)" premiered on Stereogum and quickly got picked by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, SPIN and Billboard among others and was met with an overwhelming amount of excitement for new material from the band.
So it goes without saying that Peter Bjorn and John were honored to kick off World Cafe's Sense of Place Stockholm visit and are thrilled to be sharing a couple more new tunes with fans this summer as well as this exclusive live video of them performing "Do Si Do" at X-Level studio in Stockholm, watch HERE. In addition, you can listen to the entire session via NPR HERE and check out the Stockholm Sense of Place program which also included a performance by Jose Gonzalez, a walk through Stockholm with Seinabo Sey and a tour of the ABBA Museum.
Peter Bjorn and John, the band that brought whistling back to pop music with their 2006 hit "Young Folks" and its award-winning video, are our first guests as our Sense of Place visit to Stockholm begins. This session was recorded at X-Level studio in Stockholm with our World Cafe travel adventurers in attendance. The band has not released a new album in four years and is still in the midst of writing a new one, making this live performance even more exciting. Click HERE to check out the session.
The highlight of World Cafe's recent Sense Of Place visit to Stockholm, Sweden, was a session recorded at X-Level Studios. Guests included The Amazing and Jose Gonzalez -- and Peter Bjorn And John, who treated the show to some brand-new, unreleased songs from an album currently in progress. PB&J has always made super-catchy, intelligent pop songs, and "Do Si Do" is another one. It's as fine a Swedish souvenir as you could ask for.
