Benjamin Booker is closing out 2017 with a bang, beginning last weekend when he performed on Austin City Limits with soulful urgency. The Chicago Tribune describes his stage presence as "hypnotic...he threw one hand in the air to emphasize what should be emphasized, but never did too Much. Has he been studying later career performanfes from the late, great Marvin Gaye?" Watch him perform "Witness" and "Right On You" on the ACL stage now.
Today NPR Music revealed Booker's first-ever Tiny Desk Concert where he performed stripped down versions of the poignant tracks "Believe", "Witness" and "Carry". "The music bears the same sensitivity as the message and that's felt most powerfully in the restrained guitars that punctuate this heartfelt performance," NPR's Bob Boilen says. Watch it HERE.
Next Friday, November 24, Booker's limited-edition vinyl release Live for No One will be released as a part of Record Store Day Black Friday. The EP features five live recordings of tracks from his sophomore album Witness. The session was recorded in Providence, Rhode Island at the historic Columbus Theatre and features many of the musicians who played on the album, including producer Sam Cohen.
Earlier this month Booker released his "uplifting" (Pitchfork) new music video for Witness album track "Believe". In the clip, Booker takes us on a surrealistic journey through military training with striking visuals from director James Lees (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bloc Party), who previously collaborated with Booker on "The Future Is Coming (Slow Coming/Wicked Waters)" short film.
