Not only is Taka Come On, the new album by Walking Shapes, making waves on theCMJ Charts, now CMJ.com is set to premiere the accompanying full-length video.
Shot on 8 mm film, the video gives the viewer an immediate nostalgic feeling, like they are watching home videos of wonderful adventures past. The whole album works like a short film, chronicling the band's experiences and love of New York City. "We wanted to create a visual piece which kept pace with the music on our debut album
Taka Come On.", says Nathaniel Hoho of the band. "Instead of looking at a still image while listening to the full album on YouTube we wanted to give our audience something that moved with each twist and turn that the album took." The videos capture a whole spectrum of emotions of what one would feel with friends, on tour, or even in day-to-day life in the City.
On April 24, they will continue to showcase their love of New York City by playing 24 shows in 24 locations in 24 hours. Making stops everywhere from the Buzzfeed office, to an NYU classroom to bars and restaurants like
Pianos and Baby's All Right, closing out with a show at the
Bowery Electric with Har Mar Superstar. Talking about their excitement about the tour the band said, "a wise man once told me life isn't a race but rather a marathon. This feat of stamina is in celebration of releasing our debut album 'Taka Come On' and to place our mark on New York Cities rich musical history."
Heralded by publications such as SPIN, CMJ and Earmilk,
Walking Shapes was formed by way of mountains, and through the tides of the city. Their fierce and eclectic debut
Taka Come On, recorded with Gus Oberg (The Strokes, Willie Nelson), channels their love to their home New York City. Featuring Nathaniel Hoho on vocals and guitar; Jesse Kotansky on guitar, violin, vocals?; Jake Generalli on keys, vocals; ?Dan Krysa on bass and vocals; and ?Christopher Heinz on drums,
Walking Shapes meld driving guitars, intricate arrangements and visually evocative songwriting into stunning audio refractions on New York's sonic landscape.
