YONGE-DUNDAS SQUARE (YDS) is excited to announce the return of Toronto's favourite lunchtime soundtrack, Massey Hall presents Lunchtime Live!. The series is presented in association with the award winning, youth-powered, Manifesto Festival of Community and Culture, in celebration of their 10th anniversary.
The fall lineup at YDS features a carefully crafted selection of up-and-coming talent from the 416 and 905, including Lido Pimienta, Derin Falana, and WILDE, every Monday from
September 5 to
October 3 at 12:30-1:30pm.
On Monday,
September 5, Colombian-born singer/songwriter,
Lido Pimienta will take over YDS following her lauded performance with
A Tribe Called Red at the Way Home Music & Arts Festival. The multi-instrumentalist and activist is known for her exploration of gender politics, race and identity, and her musical fusion of
Indigenous and Afro-Colombian traditions with electronic and experimental sounds.
On Monday,
September 12, Toronto-based electro-pop trio, WILDE, named by
Complex magazine as one of their "favourite new discoveries of 2015" will impress audiences at YDS with their dark and enthralling melodies, haunting samples, and beautiful vocals.
On Monday,
September 19, 22-year-old Brampton rapper/dancer, Derin Falana will use fresh and inventive beats to conjure an idyllic world where he, and the Brampton massive, might one day live together.
On Monday,
September 26, Scarborough's Drew Howard will show YDS why he is one of Canada's most promising hip-hop artists. The member of the Get Home Safe crew (alongside
Polaris Prize nominee Jazz Cartier) is known for off-kilter beats and unorthodox flows that create a sound all his own.
On Monday,
October 3, R.I.S.E. (Reaching Intelligent Souls Everywhere) will present a music-fueled spoken word showcase from their community of youth artists, activists, free-thinkers and revolutionaries.
