WFUV's popular program, Ceol na nGael ("Music of the Irish"), heard Sundays from 12-4 p.m., celebrated its 40th anniversary with a concert on February 8 at Ross Hall at the New York Botanical Garden. The concert, featuring performances by fiddler Eileen Ivers, singer Cathie Ryan, seven-piece band Celtic Cross, and Dan Gurney, accordion player of The Yanks, will be broadcast on Sunday, March 15 from 2-4 p.m. at 90.7 FM and wfuv.org, where it will also be available on demand in the audio archives.

Current hosts Shannon Spillane and Megan Scully, both Fordham University students, were on hand to introduce the performers, along with current producers Maura Monahan and Maggie Dolan and many former hosts.

After the concert Ivers praised Ceol na nGael for the way it connects Irish and Irish-American listeners with each other and with Ireland. "It's like an extended family, a community," she commented. "It keeps us all grounded, keeps us together."

Producers Monahan and Dolan added, "It was touching to have all the artists, hosts, and audience come together to celebrate the huge milestone. One of the best parts of the concert was hearing the artists' stories about how Ceol na nGael has been such a big part of their lives. It was a wonderful afternoon for us, and we're thrilled that we're now able to share it with all of our listeners."
