Brooklyn-based indie electronic trio Violet* Sands reveal new single "Modern Ruins" today with Popular TV in anticipation of their debut EP Strange Attractor set for release on May 6th via Ensemble Records. Blending both acoustic and electronic textures, the track shimmers with an atmospheric, immersive groove further highlighted by frontwoman Deidre Muro's captivating vocals.
Speaking exclusively to Popular, Deidre explains the inspiration behind the song:
"'Modern Ruins' was inspired by the initial Scully/Mulder partnership in "The X-Files" - we imagined Mulder heading out to explore some perilous remains of a desert city in search of "answers." Scully insists on going along - against her better judgment, fueled by her passion for the truth and for him. We wanted to create a sweeping, classic-feeling melody to score this idea, like something you might in a Tom Petty or
Chrissy Hynde track."
Comprised of David Perlick-Molinari (French Horn Rebellion), Deidre Muro (Savoir Adore, Deidre & The Dark), and Derek Muro (Love Like Deloreans), the band previously shared breakout tracks "No Matter What" and "Lift Me Up" in January 2016 featuring Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue, aka Eric "Doc" Mendelsohn of Ghost Beach.
Violet Sands will perform live in NYC Friday May 20th at
Palisades BK to celebrate their EP release at the PopGun Presents Show w/
Memory Tapes & Ellie Harring.

Strange Attractor crafts a shimmering, expansive, and experimental hybrid that is as playfully lush as it is masterfully produced. Recorded and mixed at the band's
YouTooCanWoo Studios in Williamsburg Brooklyn (where Perlick-Molinari also produced and mixed MGMT's Time To Pretend EP among many others) the trio blends myriad influences including 90's R&B, shoegaze, glitch pop and future bass with sci-fi infused cinematic soundscapes and trip-hop inspired dream states.
