Vesper Wood Releases New Single 'Carson' Image

Florida-based indie folk singer-songwriter Vesper Wood, the solo project of Christina Wood, has released another new single from her upcoming solo debut album Instar slated for release on March 1st. "Carson" premiered this morning with BlackBook and is a raw, emotional track about being an outsider, inspired by the writer Carson McCullers. About the new single, Wood comments: "The tune has an American, nostalgic feel for me...and I tried to keep the production simple to mirror that."

"Carson" follows the release of "Descend" (premiered via PopMatters) last month. Both tracks are included on the upcoming LP Instar, Wood's first endeavor as a solo artist. Originally from Kentucky via Germany and London, Wood's elegiac voice was first heard by millions as one half of the UK electro-pop duo Kaleida. Their sublime song "Think" was featured as the highlight soundtrack to John Wick, and other tracks found similar fame on films/shows such as Atomic Blonde and CSI before their breathtaking album Tear The Roots was released to critical acclaim in 2017. As part of Kaleida, Wood has amassed over 45 million streams to date across platforms and has toured the world with the likes of Roisin Murphy and Alt-J.

Instar was fueled and inspired by Christina's own profound experiences with her femininity and writing some of the songs from the nine track collection helped Wood process problems she was encountering with her reproductive health, biological clock, and the lack of support and awareness surrounding women's health issues in our society. Recorded in Bristol, UK with producer Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, Aldous Harding, Soccer Mommy, Jenny Hval), Instar features a gossamer touch that makes Vesper Wood's organic and atmospheric sound all the more arresting. With keys, strings, and her vocals at the forefront, there's a vulnerability and fragility that echoes through these recordings with such conviction that they could never be considered a weakness. While the nine track collection touches on themes of longing, sadness, and frustration Instar ultimately follows Wood's journey to finding peace, hope, and strength, honing in on what it means to be a woman. The result is an emotional, stark, and organic LP that seems to radiate a healing feminine spirit.

Vesper Wood will be performing the new album in select cities on the east coast beginning in March - a full list of tour dates can be found below, and tickets can be purchased here.
