As a special TBT look back on Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival 2018, today the festival is revealing a highlights video from their star-studded annual PoWoW! set. PoWoW! is a once-in-a-lifetime superstar collaboration that brings top artists together for an ultimate jam session. This year saw hip-hop legends The Roots & Snoop Dogg leading the evening, performing with an array of special guests that spanned the genres of hip-hop, funk and soul. The Queen of Funk, Chaka Khan, took the stage and to perform a few of her classic hits. Rounding out the megawatt lineup was Big Gigantic's saxophonist Dominic Lalli, the exceptionally talented New Orleans' multi-instrumentalist Trombone Shorty, and jazz great Cory Henry.
PoWoW! has quickly become one of the most exciting nights of music, creating one of a kind moments like last year's collaboration with Solange, Michael McDonald, Gallant, Griz & others where they reimagined McDonald and Kenny Loggins hit "What A Fool Believes" and more. At OMF's inaugural weekend in 2016, Miguel and Win Butler of Arcade Fire, along with John Oates (of Hall & Oates), Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Kamasi Washington created their own versions of David Bowie's "Fame" and Drake's "Hotline Bling".
Okeechobee Fest has quickly grown to be the largest independent festival in the Southeast and the first major destination of the festival season. By blending the world-class lineups and amenities of mainstream events with the sensibility and community-oriented approach of independent festivals, OMF is designing the festival of the future.
