According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has attained the rights to a variety of popular Prince tracks for an original musical film based on the musicians life. It is reported the film will be more like a MAMMA MIA-style film, with his music just used as signposts throughout, as opposed to a biopic. Read more about the news from The Hollywood Reporter here!
Prince passed away in 2016. His had a prolific career that involved eight Grammy awards, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, and selling over 100 million records worldwide.
The project is currently untitled. Troy Carter, the entertainment advisor of Prince's estate, is set to executive produce alongside Jody Gerson, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group.
