Tyler Childers' new song "Whitehouse Road" premiered yesterday at Rolling Stone and is now available to stream/share via SoundCloud. Of the song, Rolling Stone praises, "...Childers blends that ethereal, off-kilter edge of bluegrass with Seventies country and an analog, Southern rock slant on 'Whitehouse Road,' and lyrics that dig deep into the struggle to dull the pain of life in rural America."

"Whitehouse Road" is from Childers' anticipated debut album, Purgatory, which will be released August 4 and is now available for pre-order (Hickman Holler Records via Thirty Tigers). Both "Whitehouse Road" and the album's closing track, "Lady May," are included as instant downloads with each digital album pre-order.

Already receiving acclaim, NPR Music asserts, "Purgatory is likely to be one of Americana music's big fall stories, not only for the way it addresses current crises like the drug plague ravaging the region Childers calls home, but for its more timeless moments, like this tender love song offered to the 25-year-old's fellow songwriter and new bride, Senora May." She continues, "The intimacy he conjures is his gift, in this private moment made universal, and throughout his remarkable official debut."
Recorded at Nashville's The Butcher Shoppe studio, the 10-song record was produced bySturgill Simpson and David Ferguson. In addition to Childers (vocals, acoustic guitar), the album features a variety of world-renowned musicians including Simpson (acoustic guitar, background vocals), Stuart Duncan (fiddle), Miles Miller (drums, background vocals) andRuss Pahl (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, pedal steel, Jew's harp) among others.
Of the album, the Lawrence Country, KY native comments, "I am extremely grateful for Miles Miller introducing me to Sturgill Simpson, and also for Sturgill and David Ferguson taking the time to work with me. I think we both wanted to make an album for east KY, and I reckon that's what we did. It's not about rock, or grass, or country...it's just hollerin' in the mountains and stirring s up! The band Sturgill and David put together was an all-star cast, and an honor to work with and learn from. I hope to do it again, but once is more than most are blessed with. For that I am thankful."
In support of the album, Childers will tour throughout 2017, including a show with Parker Millsap and Nikki Lane at Indianapolis' Sun King Brewery on June 24, a performance on Mountain Stage on June 25 and a series of summer dates with Younder Mountain String Band. See below for full details.
