Trio da Paz returns to the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival on Sunday, August 17 at 7:30 pm. With three of Brazil's most in-demand musicians, Trio da Paz updates and redefines Brazilian jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms. Trio da Paz was formed in 1990 by guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Nilson Matta, and drummer Duduka da Fonseca, all seasoned masters of both jazz and Brazilian music.
The members of Trio da Paz have recorded and performed with an extensive list of legendary musicians, including Lubambo's work with Dianne Reeves, Michael Brecker, Grover Washington, Jr. and Kathleen Battle; Matta's work with Joe Henderson, Don Pullen, Yo-Yo Ma and Paul Winter; and Grammy nominee da Fonseca's work with Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and John Scofield. As Trio da Paz, they have recorded and performed with Charlie Byrd, Herbie Mann, Lee Konitz, and Nana Vasconcelos, among others.
Following their performance in Cooperstown, the Trio will have a two-week summer residency at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola. This will be the seventh year the Trio has performed at Dizzy's to consistently sold-out crowds.
The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival has a tradition of featuring jazz artists, including Kurt Elling, the Tierney Sutton Band, Hilary Kole, Stefon Harris, Bill Charlap, the Hank Jones Trio, and the Brubeck Brothers Quartet.
