Following successful sold-out shows at Mercury Lounge and Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, punk rockers Tits of Clay recently launched a PledgeMusic campaign to bring fans an EP of covers and original tunes inspired by their Broadway performance in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. In return for pre-ordering at various pledge levels, the band is offering a range of unique mementos such as disposable cameras filled with personal photos taken in the studio and at their live shows, exclusive access to music and videos, and souvenirs from various Hedwig eras and productions.
This Friday, September 26, a single wig designed by Mike Potter (Hedwig wig designer) will be made available on the band's PledgeMusic page at 12 noon. Made of human hair, designed by Potter for the original Off-Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and set by Perfidia (the wig mistress for the current Broadway production), it will be offered for a single $5,000 pledge.
"Our PledgeMusic campaign has been live for only a few weeks, and we have been so touched by the support from our fans and the Hedwig community," says band member Peter Yanowitz. "We set out to keep our pledge incentives at reasonable prices to keep them within reach of our fans, but the opportunity to offer such a rare piece of Hedwig history was just too good to pass up! While we know this is an expensive item, we hope it will make one lucky pledger very happy."
Hedwig composer, lyricist and co-creator Stephen Trask continues, "When I put the Angry Inch together for the Broadway production I knew they had to be authentic rock musicians. So when they morphed into Tits of Clay and played that first Rockwood gig -- before we even did our first preview -- I knew we had accomplished something that would exceed our wildest dreams! As a standalone band the Tits have drawn from the spirit and legacy of Hedwig with an authentic embrace of the heart of our show; it's been a joy to watch and play with them."
Handpicked by Trask, Tits of Clay performs by day/evening as the Angry Inch in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and was born out of the idea that any proper production of Hedwig must remain true to its New York City night club roots. The band members-all of whom have serious cred in the rock world-will now "assume the disguise of their true identities" in a 4-song EP that showcases the excitement and energy of their alter-ego's live performances and pays homage to Hedwig's punk rock roots.
