Alice Russell is pure natural talent, a natural presence, a force of nature. Whether on a big stage with her 16 piece band, charming a crowd of 4000 into staying out dancing in the rain (as she did at Montreal Jazz Festival) or rocking out an intimate club set with a stripped down six piece band, she's a singer who demands attention. Unfazed by taking to the spotlight after a sober Amy Winehouse or joining
Roy Ayers live for 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine', there's no wonder her powerful soul voice has attracted rave reviews from numerous national and international publications and praise from fans as diverse as Gilles Peterson, David Byrne, Dennis Coffey,
Massive Attack's Daddy G, and Groove Armada.

It would be easy to call
The Winery Dogs a supergroup: Vocalist and guitarist Richie Kotzenmade his mark with Poison and Mr. Big, bassist
Billy Sheehan has been rocking for decades with Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big and others, and drummer
Mike Portnoy was the co-founder of progressive metal superstars Dream Theater. But
The Winery Dogs are so much more than a supergroup. Supergroups are usually short-lived entities composed of gifted players that jam out for little while and then quickly record with the hopes of catching lightning in a bottle. Moreover, they're often the sum of their collective parts. That's certainly not the case with The Winery Dogs, a cohesive, well-rounded classic-sounding trio with blazing songs that defy expectation. The group's self-titled debut is filled with straightforward rock and roll inspired by some of their favorite bands, and their music transcends any of the styles they're best known for.

The
Messenger Legacy is an elite line-up of former members of one of Jazz' most influential bands, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. This configuration features master bassist Reggie Workman, alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, trumpeter Brian Lynch, tenor man Billy Pierce, pianist Donald Brown, and at the drums, Ralph Peterson. Their performance at Yoshi's is made even more special by the fact that it is taking place on October 11th - Art Blakey's birthday. Arguably, no other drummer is more qualified than Peterson to lead a band with such depth. Thirty years ago, Peterson, then a fresh-faced 21 year-old was chosen to play alongside Blakey as a
Messenger in the 1983 version of The Jazz
Messenger two drummer Big Band and learned first hand from the master himself. Peterson remained the 2nd drummer in the Big Band until Blakey's passing.

Since releasing his sophomore album
Solidarity Breaks in early 2011, Norwegian retro-soul singer/multi-instrumentalist Bernhoft has thrilled crowds around the world with his stripped-down yet amped-up one-man-band act. Largely on the strength of his looping-enhanced and wonder-inspiring live show, Bernhoft racked up 250,000 sales of
Solidarity Breaks and earned more than three million views for "C'Mon Talk" (a beatbox-infused, acoustic-guitar-laced single that Bernhoft performed during his September 2011 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show). With his irresistibly of-the-moment approach to classic R&B and soul, Bernhoft also nabbed the Best Artist and Best Male Artist of the Year awards at the 2012 Spellemannprisen, which are the equivalent to the GRAMMYs in Norway. Now, the former frontman of acclaimed alt-rock band Span is returning to the U.S. with an unforgettable live performance in which his ingenuity in looping magically reproduces the sound, feel, and energy of a complete band.
