YOUNG DUBLINERS (Celtic rock band)Wed, Jan 8, 8pm
$19 adv, $23 door
The Young Dubliners are quite possibly Celtic rock's hardest working band, playing hundreds of shows to thousands of fans across the US and Europe every year. In recent years they have twice appeared on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, had songs featured in TV shows (Sons Of Anarchy, Human Target) and toured extensively as a headliner and as the opener for such a diverse list of artists as Collective Soul, Jethro Tull, Johnny Lang and many more. Although the Young Dubliners sound is most commonly called 'Celtic Rock,' that label, as labels often can be, is misleading. The Irish influence is there, certainly, but it's not the only influence that rears its head on their albums, or in live shows. After all, several of the band members have no Irish roots of any kind. ANDY MCKEE plus Janet Noguera
(Imaginative and masterful acoustic guitar virtuoso) Thu, Jan 9, 8pm
$31
Andy McKee's acoustic guitar can approximate the polyrhythmic interplay of a percussion ensemble, the harmonic sweep of a string section, the dazzling runs of a bluegrass doghouse bass-and-banjo duo, and virtually anything else his pastoral compositions and tasteful covers require. In 10 years and 5 records, he's written an oeuvre that globally inspires and intrigues music fans. His robust 200 dates-a-year tour itinerary-often spanning domestic rural to the exotically remote, from Arizona to Zimbabwe and everything in between-and his fans-first commitment, make him a worldwide ambassador for a new era in acoustic virtuosity. Andy's imaginative and masterful approach to the instrument and his Guitar Masters tour franchise-a tour package of edgy progressives-is helping to redefine our conception of acoustic guitar. Recently he's garnered plum exposure touring with Dream Theater (where he played to 10,000 in Mexico City) and Eric Johnson (who made a rare acoustic showing on the Guitar Masters Tour) where he's been able to share his unique artistry with a wide and diverse audience. Fans of sophisticated holiday music had the opportunity to hear Andy on Josh Groban's GRAMMY-nominated, multi-platinum Christmas album, Noël. Read more here.

MINT CONDITION("Sounding just as energetic and commanding as ever, Mint Condition can still do it all, from writing and producing...to shifting seamlessly among R&B/funk, hip hop, jazz and rock-all without falling into the formulaic abyss. Mint Condition is proof positive that it's OK to keep doing your thing." ~Billboard Magazine)

Fri, Jan 17, 10pm
Sat, Jan 18, 8pm
Sat, Jan 18, 10pm - SOLD OUT!!!

In an industry when acts constantly come and go, Mint Condition has managed to maintain and grow a devout following. Their strategy has been simple. "We have focused on staying true to what we do. Our music gives the people a kind of insight into who we are. There is a vulnerability that comes across in the music and people embrace that, whether it's joy, love or pain," explains the band. 2011 was a banner year for Mint Condition, who celebrated their 20th anniversary. Their album 7... was critically hailed, featuring a top ten hit ("Not My Daddy" with Kelly Price, which earned two GRAMMY nominations) and two top 20 singles ("Caught My Eye" and "Walk On"). Jet Magazine called 7... "The kind of CD you can put on and play all the way through, and The Philadelphia Inquirer raved, "This is what honest, open, mature soul sounds like. Pay attention!" Mint Condition was also tapped to appear on Prince's Welcome 2 America tour and they were selected as the house band for TV One's Way Black When. Prince has often called Mint his favorite band. "In many ways, he (Prince) continues to be a mentor for us," says keyboardist Lawrence El. "He's a musical genius yet he is never condescending. He has a way of making you feel he's your biggest fan-we certainly are his! He's the best. Watching him perform always sends you back to the shed; you know you still have work to do." $14 adv, $17 door
For nearly 50 years, jazz guitarist Calvin Keys has been a leader of his own bands, producer of his recordings and on first call for his exceptional style as an accompanist and soloist by many other legends of jazz. It was after hearing him with Ahmad Jamal that Charles Earland asked Calvin to join his band for a special New York City performance. After moving to Los Angeles in 1969, Keys became the guitarist in the house band at the Persian Room with Red Holloway. During this same period Calvin co-led a band with Blue Mitchell. During this same period Calvin connected with yet another master organist, Doug Carn whom he later recorded on Doug's Adams Apple that featured the great Jean Carn on the famed Black Jazz label. It was after a 1974 moved to Oakland, California, that Calvin's nearly 20 years with the great Ahmad Jamal started. He toured extensively throughout Europe with a live recording in Paris at the famed Salle Pleyel, which finally made its way to the US. While performing is always a priority for Calvin Keys, he has found time to record 15 CDs, including his internationally acclaimed An Evening With Calvin Keys and his new release, the Jazzweek chart topper at #18, Electric Keys.
