Today, New York instrumental trio The Royal Arctic Institute are excited to share "The Lark Mirror" (Telekinesis Remix), a reworking of the track by Telekinesis' Michael Lerner from TRAI's 2018 album Accidental Achievement (Rhyme & Reason Records). The track also features violin from Claudia Chopek (Bruce Springsteen, Father John Misty, The Last Shadow Puppets). The remix is now available to stream or embed HERE, and watch the video for the original version of the track HERE. The group will be performing at the Pet Shop in Jersey City, NJ on March 12, and will perform in Brooklyn, NY at Rough Trade on April 16 with Telekinesis. See below for more New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey shows in the near future, with more to be announced soon. Accidental Achievement is now available on Spotify and for purchase HERE.
Guitarist John Leon says of the track, "It was written inspired by the theme of betrayal resulting in boundaries being erected by the victim. Love being betrayed resulting in "do not ever contact me again." When I wrote it, I specifically heard violin and once we secured Claudia Chopek it fell together into something golden.
I don't know if this matters, but the actual tune got written by chance when I was watching an episode of Downton Abbey."
The release of the remix comes shortly after the release of "Leaky Goes To Brooklyn" (BKGD Audio Remix), as well as the debut of the video for "The Grubert Effect," which Tiny Mix Tapes called a "propulsive concoction of guitar, bass, and drums that braked at the right moments and careened most of the rest of the time." The video for "The Grubert Effect" is available to stream or embed HERE, and the audio-only track can be found on Spotify.
The Royal Arctic Institute are a New York trio playing an eclectic blend of cinematic mood music. The group formed in 2016 and released their debut record The French Method in 2017 -- New York Music Daily praised its "shapeshifting, enigmatic themes." The three members of the Royal Arctic Institute include John Leon (Roky Erickson's backing band), Gerard Smith (Phantom Tollbooth), and Lyle Hysen (Das Damen, Arthur Lee and Love). The three members of The Royal Arctic Institute take a "post-everything" approach to their compositions while pulling from many different genres and sonic palettes.
