She's new to the music scene but her vocals sound as if she's been around forever. Kat Edmonson is not only part of The Ridgefield Playhouse Emerging Artist series but also part of the No. 109 Cheese & Wine "Evening of Art, Wine and Jazz". Saturday, March 7, kicks off at 7:15 p.m. with a free wine tasting and art by photographer Bonnie Edelman in the lobby before being treated to the music of retro-soul chanteuse Kat Edmonson, who has been compared to everyone from Billie Holiday to Nora Jones.

The Boston Globe called her 2012 album, Way Down Low, "one of the greatest vocal albums I've ever heard." It featured both originals and covers in styles from pop and country to jazz and bossa nova, earned her universal critical acclaim, and the attention of Sony Masterworks, who released her third album, The Big Picture (2014), which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart, No. 1 on Contemporary Jazz Chart, and No. 2 on the Total Jazz Chart. This underscores the fact that Kat is one of today's most exciting and original singers, a throwback who is completely of the moment, a dazzling talent with a voice that's impossible to forget.

Piccolo's Pizza & Pasta Jazzeria (24 Prospect St., Ridgefield) will pour a complimentary glass of house wine with dinner the night of this show when ticket is presented. This event is part of the Emerging Artist Series and the No. 109 Cheese & Wine "Art, Wine and Jazz" Series.

A stunningly sweet singer with a uniquely expressive voice, Kat Edmonson's music has a timeless sound. In a few short years, she has gone from singing in small rooms in her native Texas to concert halls and festivals around the world, playing dates with the likes of Gary Clark Jr., Lyle Lovett, Michael Kiwanuka and Chris Isaak. Her songs have been featured on several television shows and commercials. Kat performed on the January 3 edition of CBS News' Saturday Sessions singing "Oh My Love" from The Big Picture.

For tickets ($25), visit ridgefieldplayhouse.org or call the box office at 203-438-5795. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a not-for-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
