The Performing Arts School at bergenPAC is proud and excited to announce the Elements of Hip Hop Workshop Series. Students ages 8-18 will learn skills in DJing, MCing, Graffiti Art, Beatboxing and Breakdancing. The workshop series will end with a culminating performance open to the general public.
"The history and culture of Hip Hop is quickly becoming a part of mainstream arts education. The Performing Arts School at bergenPAC couldn't be more excited to offer this genre within our educational curriculum. Students will learn various artistic skills and will find unique and creative ways to express themselves, while having the privilege to study alongside world renowned Hip Hop artists," says Becky Hinkle, Managing Director of The Performing Arts School.
The Elements of Hip Hop is led by world renowned Hip Hop Cultural Ambassador Sheikia "Purple Haze" Norris. "Purple" is a master Hip Hop teaching artist and performer who travels the world spreading the love of Hip Hop History and Culture. "Hip Hop is a mind blowing cultural experience, inviting all to participate and co-create a musical journey using one's authentic self-expression," says Purple.
Sheikia S. Norris was born in the birthplace of Hip Hop - The Bronx. Purple challenges audiences with a natural ease and a voice that inspires audience movement and positive thoughts with words. Enthusiasts of the art form appreciate her energy, her impeccable flow and a clever deliverance of truth. Purple has mastered her own rich style of spitting lyrics with both power and substance. There is a spontaneous combustion that happens when she dares you to discover self-expression with her! Purple aims to create unforgettable moments with the pen, mic, heart and mind... collectively, so all are invited and all involved! Purple is just as engaging in the classroom as she is on her Sweet Sixteen mixtape series. As the lead artist for NJPAC's "Hip Hop Intensive", an alum of the U.S. State Dept.'s "Next Level Hip Hop Diplomacy Program" and recipient of "The Lady's First Fund," Purple is rapidly growing a reputation for being a lead contributor to Hip Hop education and cultural preservation. She is passionate about collectively bridging art, culture, health and education. She is honorably mentioned as an up and coming curator for Hip Hop art, education, culture and performance.
Workshop attendees will receive a 20% discount off of tuition for bergenPAC's Hip Hop Summer Camps that take place in July and August.
