The Mystery Lights Announce 'Too Much Tension!' LP Image

60s tinged garage punks, The Mystery Lights have announced their new record Too Much Tension! due out May 10 on Daptone's rock-centric imprint, Wick Records. With the announce, the band released new single and accompanying video, "Someone Else is in Control." Strapped with fuzzy riffs, feverish percussion and commanding vocals, "Someone Else is in Control" reflects on the internal conflict that can go on between the little demons in our minds that might lead to depression, anxiety or insanity.

Known for its raw, visceral energy, The Mystery Lights' relentless live show earned a great deal of critical acclaim for their 2016 self-titled debut, also out on Wick. While keeping the hard-hitting approach of the first LP, Too Much Tension! finds the group digging deeper into their well of eclectic influences, enriching their sound without echoing the past. Touching on substance abuse, self-care, and the recognition of happiness only once it's lost, the album is a deeply layered, emotive collection cloaked in a blistering sonic ride. It mixes the eerie, insistent synth sounds of groups like The Normal and Suicide, the energy and swagger of punk's golden age, the pop sensibility of The Kinks, and the stark, deliberate execution of Television.

Produced by Wayne Gordon at Daptone's House of Soul, Too Much Tension!, is a modern classic born from vintage technique and soulful execution. The band will support the record with a nationwide tour kicking off with a NYC hometown throwdown on May 18 as well as several appearances at SXSW. Be sure to catch them LIVE in a city near you!
