Legendary R&B group The Manhattans will bring their soulful sounds to the Suncoast Showroom April 19 and 20.
Named after the cocktail of whiskey, vermouth and bitters, The Manhattans formed in the early '60s. Their first hit on the Billboard charts was the 1964 song, "I Wanna Be (Your Everything)," the first of eight singles for the group, nearly all in the Top 30.
The group rose to prominence in 1972 with the release of "One Life to Live," which went to No. 3 on the US R&B charts. A follow-up single, "There's No Me Without You" also topped at No. 3 on the charts. In the mid-'70s, The Manhattans achieved top 10 success again with "Don't Take Your Love" and "Hurt." Superstardom came in 1976, when "Kiss and Say Goodbye" became their first No. 1 hit on both the Pop and R&B charts. It also became only the second platinum single in history. Follow-up hits include "I Kinda Miss You," "It Feels So Good to Be Loved So Bad," "We Never Danced a Love Song" and "Am I Losing You."Videos
